Step 1: Prepare for Painting
Set up your workspace in a well-ventilated area and cover your workspace with a drop cloth to protect it from overspray. Mask off the face of the clock with painter’s tape and masking paper to keep it free of paint.
Step 2: Prime the Clock's Surface
Ensure the metallic paint gives you optimal coverage by first priming the clock surface. To start priming, shake your can of Rust-Oleum 2x Ultra Cover Primer Spray for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Then, hold the can 10 to 16 inches away from the clock and spray two to three coats in a sweeping motion, allowing a few minutes in between each coat.
Step 3: Paint the Clock
Now that your clock is primed, you’re ready to start painting. Shake your can of Rust-Oleum Specialty Metallic Spray paint in gold or silver for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Then, spray in a back-and-forth motion, holding the can 10 to 12 inches away from the clock at all times. Apply two or more light coats to the clock, allowing a few minutes in between each.
Step 4: Finish Up
Set the painted clock aside to dry completely for at least 24 hours. Once your clock is dry, re-hang it and enjoy.
